Bunion Correction With Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction Data Released

May 23, 2019 — Orthopedics This Week, the largest orthopedics focused publication in the U.S., featured new data highlighting positive results of a study on bunion recurrence rates following a correction with Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™. Study results, published in The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery, found more than 97.4% of patients experienced successful bone fusion of the joint at 9.5 months follow up and, for 98.9% of the participants, maintained a stable joint position over the course of the study.

All patients began weight bearing with a fracture boot within one-week post-op. Lead author Paul Dayton, DPM, of the Midwest Bunion Center in Ankeny, IA called the results “encouraging” and added that the “implant removal rate was a very low 3.1% compared with conventional plate implants where published removal rates can be upwards of 17% for tarsometatarsal and 20% for MTP [metatarsophalangeal] joint fusion procedures.”
