Back on the beach again: New foot surgery decreases rehab time, improves quality of life

Feb. 15, 2019— Dr. Barry White from Portland Foot & Ankle and his patient Patricia Cole were featured on the front page of the Scarborough Leader newspaper regarding their experiences with Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™. Dr. White explained that a bunion is a tri-plane foot deformity that requires a three-dimensional surgical approach in order to address the defect completely. He also said that this surgical approach could help reduce the risk of the bunion returning and lead to a faster recovery.

Patricia spoke about the struggles she faced while living with painful bunions in both of her feet. Previously, she had undergone a 2D osteotomy to correct the bunion in her left foot and said she could not bear weight on that foot for several months after surgery. However, with the Lapiplasty® Procedure on her right foot, she claims she was able to walk comfortably less than two weeks after the surgery.
