What A New Study Reveals About Biplanar Plating For First Ray Arthrodesis Procedures

May 1, 2019— Podiatry experts who weighed in on a recent study focusing on the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ Procedure say the results are impressive. The study analyzed the impact of rapid weightbearing and healing for patients who underwent first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTP) or first tarsometatarsal joint (TMT) fusions using a biplanar plating technique without compression. Results published in The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery, found more than 97% of patients experienced successful bone healing across the fusion site at 9.5 months follow up. All patients began early weightbearing with a surgical boot within one-week post-op. These results provide further evidence of the potential benefits of the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ Procedure that uses precision guides to allow surgeons to reproducibly correct all 3 dimensions of a bunion before securing the joint with patented titanium plates.
