March 15, 2019 — Dr. Kurt Kinghorn with Ankle Foot and Medical Center in Boise, Idaho was featured in a segment of ‘Idaho Living’ on CBS affiliate KBOI-TV to discuss his use of the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ procedure. He explained that a bunion is most commonly caused by a hereditary defect in the foot and that traditional 2D osteotomies do not correct the root cause of the defect, which is an unstable joint in the middle of the foot. Unlike the traditional approach, the Lapiplasty® Procedure uses special surgical guides to lean, elevate and rotate the bone back into a normal position. Titanium plates are then used to lock the unstable joint in place. This lowers the risk of the bunion returning and helps facilitate a faster recovery for patients. According to Dr. Kinghorn “the misconception that you have to be off your feet for a long while is put to the wayside by this new procedure.” He claims to weight-bear his patients in a surgical boot as soon as they are able to comfortably.
